The Building
The outer walls consist of a timber framework with straw bales for insulation and a ventilated façade of weather resistant larch wood. The centre of the house is a spacious main room with living and dining area and an open, fully

terrace which provides a beautiful vista. The overhanging roof offers privacy and pleasant shade in summer.

Technical Equipment
The house has its own deep well for water supply. The Land
The fenced land has a total area of 4.1ha, about 36 olive trees, some cork oaks & various young fruit, citrus and almond trees. In spring, the flowers of butterfly lavender, broom and several varieties of rock rose dominate the scene.

The Quinta lies at the edge of the small village of Vale de Prazeres, at the foot of the Serra da Gardunha. The village centre is about 2km away. There are two small supermarkets, several cafés/bars, a bakery, a restaurant with Portuguese cuisine, a primary school, a pharmacy, the
local post office and the village administration office.

In the village there are also bus and rail connections to the district capital of Castelo Branco and to the nearby municipality town of Fundão which offers a weekly farmers’ market, various shops and supermarkets, a train and central bus station, hotels, a campsite, swimming facilities, a sports centre, and schools. From both cities, there are reasonably priced long-distance buses and trains, e.g. to Lisbon. The nearest motorway access (A23) is about a 15-minute drive away.

Trips worth making
In the vicinity of Vale de Prazeres there are numerous attractions for nature and culture lovers which
can be reached in less than an hour’s drive. In addition to various idyllic river beaches there are
walks/hikes on the Gardunha and the Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain in Portugal. The university
town of Covilha offers many opportunities to eat out, with traditional Portuguese cuisine and even
Japanese and vegan. Close to the Spanish border lies the arguably “most Portuguese” village of

Monsanto with its impressive stone houses, as well as other interesting villages, such as Idanha-a-
Velha, Penha Garcia, Monfortinho and Belmonte. Head west for a visit to the Portas do Ródão Natural

Park with its vulture colonies. And to the south, Castelo Branco provides numerous opportunities for
cultural entertainment, such as concerts, theatre, and ballet.
