Detailed Description

A truly breath-taking Beiras country house in the traditional Portuguese style in a magical setting with spectacular views, professionally restored and modernised by German master craftsmen and his son, into a Villa with a beautiful garden, a fabulous alfresco area, a workshop and a lock-up tool room.

Set in a secluded village with a small chapel, overlooking the confluence of three valleys, is a home for all seasons.

Warm in winter, cool in summer with 60cm thick walls.

The house has been beautifully restored with meticulous attention to detail, from the hand crafted doors, bespoke metal work and lovingly restored woodwork throughout the house, to the natural oxides that colour the exterior, there is not one centimetre of the house that has not received undivided attention.

The main house is enclosed with a beautiful courtyard, surrounded by an ancient stone wall.

The result is a combination of old style and cosy and new built modern and convenient, with self sustaining infrastructure, septic tank, gas and wood burning heating, including an excellent supply pure spring water from a strong 75 metre borehole.

The connected kitchen and dining area are next to a walk-in pantry and internet, computer room along the passage. The first floor is completed with a spacious lounge, television room, study, guest bedroom and bathroom. The ground floor boasts two large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a huge walk in storage room and a large laundry with all the fittings necessary.

The covered Alfresco area is a wonderful area for entertaining in summer.

Complete with lighting and a small museum encompassing the old still, this area provides a superb under cover space for listening to music, parties or dining.

Separate and private from the main house is the apartment, which is run as a very successful tourist accommodation business. It has a kitchen, lounge, bedroom and en suite bathroom with a cosy wood burner and it`s own private terrace, overlooking the valley.

The garden has been laid out by a professional horticulturist and includes fruit trees and rare plants all in a natural lay out, with low stone walls and stone edging. At the bottom of the garden is a beautiful gazebo, the perfect place for sun-downers and watching the beautiful sunsets or savouring the spectacular views of the valley.

Next to the main house is a wonderful barbecue area, complete with grill, a chimney and a tiled roof. Yet another great space for entertaining.

The house itself is 15 minutes drive between two main towns while the area is a thriving hub of Belgian, French, Dutch and English nationals who have found their place in the sun in the centre of Portugal.

Both towns boast excellent facilities including health centres and varied shops, banks, post offices, pharmacies, hard-ware stores, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and bars. There is an excellent restaurant and bar in Carapinha, 7 minutes away.

The regional capital, Coimbra is only 40 minutes away on a brand new highway. The local people are extra friendly and helpful and the region boasts weekly markets, fairs and festivals all year round.

Set in the spectacular valley of Vale de Ovelha, with it’s serenity and nature. Our summer visitors, the Iberian eagles, as well as Bonneli’s eagle regularly visit the valley to breed.

There are marvellous opportunities for walking or cycling in the area.

The oak and willow forests along the water courses provide a serene, beautiful spot to listen to and watch many rare bird species too.

The night skies are crystal clear and the spring brings a display of wild flowers and verdant greenery that lights up the valleys. A perfect place for star gazing!
