Renovated 4 bedroom villa with a terrace and river views

Property Advertised by: Owner

Property Description

Fully renovated villa situated in a pretty village in the hills overlooking the Zêzere river. It is surrounded by a landscaped garden. One balcony faces the sunrise, the other the sunset.

The house was built in 1950 as part of a high quality architectural project to house the Cabril Dam managers, engineers and maintenance staff.

The main door (middle, front view) opens into the main hall, with the living room (with fireplace) on the left. Beyond, also on the left, there’s a second hall giving access to a small bedroom (en-suite bathroom), kitchen and dining room.
Opposite the main door is a large built-in cupboard.
On the right there’s the central corridor with access to the main bathroom and 3 ample bedrooms (one with balcony).

The woodwork throughout is beech (interior doors) and pine (floors). The windows are double-glazed. The 6 main rooms and halls/corridor have resplendent new and uniform parquet flooring throughout.

The bathrooms have a shower, hand-basin, bidet and toilet; non-slip floor-tiling.
The kitchen has fitted cupboards and a sink unit in beech, to match the rest of the woodwork.

The plot is 820m2. Included in the original design, the gardens are landscaped with a raised terrace (covered with a pergola), flower beds and areas for grassing. Below the garden, far below, flows the river Zézere, into which the Ribeira de Pêra flows, between the towering rock faces opposite.

The house is within view or earshot of a church at each point of the compass. Three of them may ring out the hour, in leisurely succession if they care to ring at all.

During 2006/7, the house was completely renovated. It was given a new roof (tiling and beams), new double-glazed windows and doors with security shutters, new bathrooms, new flooring and new plumbing. A stair was installed giving access to the attic.

This spacious bungalow is situated in Pedrógão Pequeno, a sleepy, well-restored stone village not far from the IC8 road, which runs from the seaside resort of Figueira da Foz towards the Spanish border. The highest mountain range in mainland Portugal, the Serra de Estrela (to 2000m), is about 100km to the North. The cultural centres of the region are the ancient university town of Coimbra (with some of the country’s best hospitals) and Castelo Branco.

The village has all services (market, health center, cafés, restaurant, primary school). The sea is about 55 miles away; Lisbon and Porto airports a little more than 2h away.

One of the district’s summer glories are the “river beaches”. They provide cafés and places to sunbathe; the water quality is controlled.

The region is one of great natural beauty, with forests, hills, rivers and valleys in every direction. The reservoirs created using the deep valleys of the Zézere stretch for a distance of 150km and offer increasing opportunities for water sports. There is a long list of places to visit – the Geopark NaturTejo, Serra da Estrela, and Castanheira aquapark, to name but a few.
