CRC199: Zêzere Views Villa

Sertã, Castelo Branco

Renovated 4-bedroom villa, with river views, Pedrógão Pequeno

Property Advertised by: Owner

Property Description

A fully renovated villa situated in a pretty village in the hills overlooking the River Zêzere.

It is surrounded by a landscaped garden. During 2006/7, the house was completely renovated: a new roof, new doors and double-glazed windows, new security shutters, new bathrooms, new flooring, new wiring and plumbing, and a new stair to the attic.
The house was built in 1950 as part of a high-quality architectural project related to the national hydro-electrical programme promoted by the central government (architect: Jorge Segurado).

The woodwork is beech, with the exception of the parquet flooring (pine throughout). The bathrooms have a shower, hand basin, toilet, bidet and non-slip floor-tiling. The kitchen has fitted cupboards and a sink unit, also in beech. There are two balconies, one facing the sunrise, the other the sunset.
The images above include a sketch of the floor plan.

The plot covers 820 square metres. The gardens, which retain the original architectural design, are landscaped with a raised terrace (including a pergola), flower beds and areas for grassing/fruit trees. Far below flows the Zézere, joined by the Ribeira de Pêra at a point between the rock faces opposite. Of the four churches within sight or earshot, three may or may not ring out the hour, each in its own time.

Pedrógão Pequeno is a sleepy, well-restored stone village not far from the IC8 (a major road running from the coast towards the Spanish border). It has a market, health centre, cafés, restaurant and primary school.
The regional cultural centres are the ancient university town of Coimbra (good hospitals) and Castelo Branco.
The region is one of great natural beauty, with forests, hills, rivers and valleys in every direction, the Zézere itself (Cabril) being the local beauty spot. Among its summer glories are the “river beaches”, which provide cafés and places to bathe and sunbathe; the water quality is controlled. The area has developed quite a significant international community.

The highest mountain range in mainland Portugal, the Serra de Estrela (to 2000m), lies about 100km to the North. The reservoirs created in the deep valleys of the Zézere stretch for 150km and offer increasing opportunities for water sports. There is a long list of places to visit – the Geopark NaturTejo, Serra da Estrela, Fragas de São Simão and Castanheira aquapark, to name but a few.

The sea is about 55 miles/90 kms away; Lisbon and Porto airports about 2h15m away.
