I am a complete numpty when it comes to accounting, my brain just shuts down when presented with figures of any kind. So when Andy left Pure Portugal and I had to take charge of doing our accounts, I needed to find something that was designed for dummies!
I did some internet research and anything with the word “spreadsheet” – which gives me horrors – was instantly rejected.
Then I found FreeAgent which seemed to be exactly what I was looking for – not only simple to use, and designed specifically for the way freelancers and small business owners work, it can handle multiple currencies, and multiple payment methods (bank transfer, paypal, etc – simply upload your statements every month). It will even do your RTI reporting automatically for you – the joy! (Even the thought of attempting to navigate the HMRC website brings me to tears).
Another feature I like is that it’s online, so there’s no fear of losing all that important information, and worse – having to do the accounts all over again – arrgghhh!
They even had a month’s no-obligation free trial (with no need to enter any credit card details), and then the cost was tiny compared to other accounting solutions (just £30 per month, or £300 per year if you pay annually).
I still wasn’t too sure though – after all I am a complete numpty. It actually sounded a bit too cheap. Maybe I was choosing something that wasn’t really up to the job? Maybe it wasn’t a professional enough solution?
I haven’t been able to shake this niggling feeling, even though I’ve been happily using the software for over a year now. So I was delighted to learn that FreeAgent has just been rated the best accounting software for small businesses in the TrustRadius Buyer’s Guide to Accounting Software!
If you’d like to try out FreeAgent for your own business, you can use our referral link for a free trial and 10% discount if you choose to purchase the software: http://fre.ag/43ban14f
