We have owned this delightful hideaway cottage in the peaceful São Mamede Natural Park for many years but due to ill health we are now, sadly, having to part with it.  It is partially renovated with plenty of scope for further improvements. We have lived here comfortably despite the need for further renovations.  A new roof was put on 2 years ago which is insulated, this has made a tremendous difference to the house not only is it watertight but the upstairs rooms are cosy in winter and cooler in summer. New windows were also put in upstairs.

The cottage is detached and nestles at the bottom of a little tarmacked lane off the main road.  There are neighbouring properties close by which offers a nice little friendly community and security.

The property has mains electricity, mains water supply, telephone connection, good mobile phone reception and septic tank.

The cottage has two levels, the upper floor is split into two large rooms, the rear is currently used as a bedroom and the front is used as a sitting room.  Downstairs is divided into 3 rooms, all with original slate floors.  The front downstairs room also has a typical Alentejo fireplace.

The side terrace offers a pleasant outside sitting area in spring and summer.  The original pigsty and pig house attached to the property remains intact and in its original form, although now it houses a flourishing lemon tree and bay tree and more grape vines.  We have kept hens and ducks in the pigsty although admittedly they were very free ranging hens and ducks and wandered up and down the lane and neighbouring fields always returning promptly for bedtime.

With this property comes a piece of land approximately 1 hectare a short distance from the house.  A clear water stream runs through this land, which also contains a well.  The land has fruit trees including; peach, plum, pear, apple, fig, pomegranate, a huge mulberry, walnut, and hazelnut and of course a couple of olive trees.  This piece of land is well watered and the soil is good and makes an excellent vegetable growing area which has supplied us with copious crops of tomatoes, peppers, beans, aubergines through the summer.

There are 2 small villages within walking distance of 15 minutes offering bar/café and a well stocked village shop.
