This beautiful cottage is only half an hour from Faro airport and ten minutes from the coast. It’s very comfortable and you can snuggle up on the two sofas, or lounge about on the hammock or sunloungers outside, under the fig tree.

Despite its rustic charm you will have all the modern conveniences of air conditioning, a fully equipped cherry wood kitchen including dishwasher and microwave and a small utility area with a washing machine. There is also a wood burning stove to keep you cosy during Autumn nights.

The roof is insulated, the property has a C energy certificate and it’s very cosy in winter and cool in summer. If you enjoy nature, you you can wake up to the sweet sounds of the Golden Oriole, which we have seen in the garden, or go to sleep to the calls of the Tawny Owl in the carob trees at the back of the house.

The cottage is detached with only one friendly neighbour opposite and has plenty of room for two cars. It is ideal for small children, who can play safely in the walled grounds and we can provide children’s beds or a travel cot if needed.

The house is all on one level and would therefore be suitable for those with mild mobility or visual problems. All the windows and doors have fly screens to keep mosquitoes and other insects out and the windows are double glazed. The house has double glazing and shutters throughout which keep it cool in summer and safe at night.

There are some beautiful walks and places to visit in the local area, with inexpensive restaurants only a few miles away. The cottage is close to Benafim or Salir. The Spring flowers in April and May are quite breathtaking, with the Barrocal area being one of the most productive ecosystems for flora and fauna in Europe.

You will find wild orchids on the hills behind the house, and the almond blossom is a delight in February. Loule is the nearest town, 10 minutes drive via the back roads., a historic centre, with a local farmers’ market every Saturday, whilst the Roman ruins at Estoi or Silves castle are only a car drive away.

We have made the garden drought resistant, with lavenders and thymes and we also have mature almonds, figs and olive trees in the garden. We didn’t want a pool, with so many beaches nearby, but there is flat land at the back of the house with a brick building that could be used as a pool house for the pump. Failing that you could have a vegetable garden there!

The total plot is 356m2 with 103m2 as buildings, but it has mature almond and fig trees, olive trees. There is plenty of parking space, electric gates and a secure shed which was completely renovated in 2008 and can e used as a workshop or for bike storage or as a studio. The house and garden, which is completely detached, has one delightful neighbor opposite.

This house is all on one level and would be suitable for a retired couple or someone with a young family or as an investment for holiday rental. It’s completely fenced all around making it safe for pets. We can negotiate on furniture too if you’d like to keep it.

The beaches in the Algarve are amongst the best in the world, with something for everyone, but if you like swimming in fresh water or enjoy a picnic in a beautiful spot, the lovely fontes at Alte are only ten minutes away, with clear water which comes straight from an underground Spring.

We are reluctantly selling this part of our dream in the Algarve. In 2000 we bought this little house as a ruin. The roof was about to fall in, but we fell in love with the place as soon as we saw it. The land, despite being near a minor road, exudes peace and calm and we rang the number on the sign, went to the solicitors with the old couple selling it and almost overnight, it was ours!

It took us eight more years to restore it to the comfortable and carefully restored cottage is it today and we have spent lots of happy times and holidays in it until now. We love Portugal we have retired here to a property nearby and have been running this cottage as a licensed holiday property ever since. (Registered with Loulé Council as an Alojamento Local). At the moment, it realises about 5,000 euros a year in holiday rental.
