The Village: Aldeia João Pires has a café-bar and a mini-market where you can have a beer or glass of wine. It is the home of a famous traditional Portuguese wind-band and hosts its own annual 3-day festa in August. School buses take children to the primary school 2km away in Aldeia de Bispo and to the secondary school in Penamacor 8km away.
About 50km away are the mountains of Serra de Estrela where lunatics of all ages gather in the winter in order to risk life and limb in the snow.
