The Quinta do Cortiço is a vast 5.8 hectare (14 acre) smallholding located completely on it's own, hidden away in beautiful surroundings.
The property has a massive feel to it, it's absolutely private and all borders are lined with large trees.
The house has a 68m2 footprint and is built of solid local stone, we are currently in the process of putting a brand new insulated roof on it, boarded on the inside with pine tongue and groove boards, laying a ceramic tiled floor and fitting a new front door and window. The interior is one empty space.
On one side of the house is a stone built store/barn that could either be used as part of the accommodation, for animals, or for a wood store etc. On the other side is a great original stone built baking oven still in good working order, and in front of the house is a stone built chicken pen and hut.
Approximately 30 metres below the house is a very good spring water well which we are currently having dug out and cleaned, plus there is a bore hole providing an endless supply of good spring water. We have just started the process of having electricity connected, this could possibly take up to two months from now (19/6/2011) until finished.
There are over 100 olive trees, 60 good cork oak trees, a lot of mimosa trees that can be thinned for winter fire wood. The big open fields provide more than ample scope for animal keeping (horses, sheep, goats etc) and for vegetable growing, plus there are plenty of spots where yurts,tipi's or caravans could be put.
There is roughly 200 meters of river/stream frontage with some lovely shaded spots under fig trees to relax by the water.
1.5 kms fom the village of Quintas da Torre where there is a cafe/bar and small general store and a 20 mins car ride to the market town of Fundão.
This is a charming hidden riverside retreat with huge potential!
