A lovely sheltered place for nature and horse lovers, surrounded by hundreds of hectares of nature, yet near the town of Oliveira do Hospital. On this tremendous 16 hectare piece of land you will find this characteristic farm with a main house, a separate second granite house, which is divided into two apartments and two more houses which are ready for renovation. By using traditional and modern materials this farm has been turned into a lovely spot.

House 1
The big main house has been built totally out of granite a few hundred years ago and was in 2009 completely renovated. The house has double and sun breaking glazing which are mounted in aluminum retour thermal frames.
Ground floor: big light entrance. 3 bedrooms and a big bathroom with toilet, lavatory and a big shower cubicle.
1st floor: on this floor you will find a nice, lovely living room with wood burner and an open kitchen which has a handmade traditional wood oven. Every side of this house has big windows which supply a tremendous amount of light and offers spectacular views over the complete terrain going from fields, forest, water to the mountains of the Serra da Estrela.
House 2
The spacious house has been built totally out of granite a few hundred years ago and was in 2007 completely renovated. The house has double glazed windows and doors which are mounted in aluminum frames.
Ground floor: here you will find a self catering apartment which has a living room with an open kitchen and wood burner, very large bedroom and a very unique bathroom with toilet, lavatory and a big shower cubicle. From the living room you enter a large veranda made from wood, from this veranda (25 m2) the views will amaze you again.
First floor: here you will find a bigger self catering apartment which has a living room with an open kitchen and wood burner, two bedrooms, mezzanine and a very spacious bathroom with toilet, lavatory and a big shower cubicle. From the living room and bedroom you enter a big veranda made from wood, from this veranda (25 m2) the views are amazing.
House 3 & 4
Both houses are mainly constructed out of granite and are situated in a very romantic place close to the waterfall where you can see the otters swimming. Both houses are ready for renovation. We have drawings available which will give you a general idea of what can be made of them.
Next to the waterfall is an old mill which has served for flour production. This mill is also registered and can be renovated.
Bathhouse
This bathhouse is an authentically renovated granite animal shed which is in use at this moment for dishwasher, washing machine, freezer, toilet and shower.
Swimming pool
The pool was constructed in 2009 and is built with polystyrene blocks which are filled with 16 cm of concrete. Due to high insulation value off this system the water temperature will stay on a very constant level, even without extra heating.
The pool is 6 X 12 metres in size and has a depth of 1.40 metres. It is applied with soft sandy yellow liner which gives a very natural effect. The underwater led lights are connected to a computer with the possibility of running 16 programs. By using a salt system the use of chemicals are reduced to a minimum.
Stables
From the main house you can see the 20 wooden stables, all with automatic drinkers. There is also a tack room and storage for hay and straw. Behind the stables is a dirt track which leads you directly into the forest where you can ride over tracks and old Roman roads.
The pasture fields are fenced with electric wire and are more or less 5 hectares. They can be irrigated by authentic irrigation channels so there is no need to use electricity, pumps etc. and 9 months a year there is grass for the horses.
There are many paddocks for the horses, a riding school and there are water taps all over the place.
Surroundings
The property consists of grazing fields, paddocks and a very varied forest of pine and lots of oak. Further there are amazing parts with very big granite rocks, olive trees, figs, hazelnuts, quinces and in the autumn after the first rain you can pick your own lovely mushrooms.
The river Cobral with its fascinating waterfalls crosses the terrain and has got water all through the year and therefore the fields can be irrigated during most months.
The farm is situated close to the village of Adarnela which has 27 people living there, it is a small and hospitable village and it seems that time there has been standing still.
Within walking distance there are the villages Lagares da Beira and Travanca do Lagos. There you can find some cafes, restaurants and small supermarkets. 5 kilometers away you will find Oliveira do Hospital where you can find the bigger supermarkets, restaurants, bars, cinema, hospital and two monthly markets.
The mountains of The Serra da Estrela, which you can see from the house, are the highest of the Portugal mainland. This point is called the Torre and counts 1993 meters of altitude. In the winter it is also possible to ski there.
General
The houses on the Quinta are freely situated and are south facing. The Quinta exists of two parcel numbers both with 2 houses. 1 of the parcels can be split once again and there are enough possibilities to extend.
Water comes from a borehole, 85 meters deep, with a capacity of 30.000 liters of water a day. There are more wells and water mines and for the irrigation of the land you can use the authentic Roman irrigation channels. The property has its own river and many granite waterways.
The electricity was completely newly connected in 2005 and all the wires are underground. There is 220V and 380V.
Telephone/ADSL is connected and because of the short distance to the ADSL central the connection is perfect. TV also by ADSL.
It is now used as a Bed and Breakfast and for riding holidays and has lots of opportunities to make an income.
We may also accept a property swap in the Alentejo - Costa Azul which is suitable for horses.
