The farmhouse is set amongst the forests of the Serra da Lousã mountains, with stunning views of the surrounding valley. The historic town of Penela is located 3km to the north and is overlooked by its medieval castle. The town has ample shopping facilities, banks and restaurants, and the agricultural market is Thursday. Coimbra, set above the Mondego River, is 20 minutes by car. This former capital city is the birthplace of six kings and the seat of the oldest university in Portugal. For visitors, Coimbra holds a wealth of fascinating historic associations. Conimbriga, the largest and most extensively excavated Roman site in Portugal, is located 10km west of the farmhouse and is home to some of the finest mosaics in Europe. The city of Tomar, located 40 minutes drive south, is a must for visitors to this area. The city, with its historic Knights Templar connections, is dominated by the 12th Century castle which houses the famous Convent of Christ.
