The house has been renovated using local materials and environmentally friendly methods wherever possible. The roof was replaced 3 years ago and is fully insulated. The house is painted in the traditional way using "caiada", a paint based on heated marble stones.
The property has 800m2 of land with olive, wine grape, orange, lemon, pomegranate, walnut, loquat, apricot, blackthorn, apple, pear and persimmon trees. The land has been used for the last 6 years as an organic garden and can produce enough to feed a family.
A small well (with water pump) on the river bed brings water to the entire garden. Drinking water comes from a public well, free of charge. There is a 6,000 litre water storage tank and a 1,000 litre rain water tank. The owner has begun to setup a thermal water panel to heat water using the sun and completion of this unfinished project will further increase the ecological qualities of the property.

month (paid by the national electricity company - EDP). Single-phase mains electricity is connected as part of this system, which could be upgraded to 3-phase if desired.

3km to the nearest village with a bar/café. The nearest city (Estremoz) is 10km with supermarket, bars, shops, etc.
This property is located on the least populated region of Portugal (one person per square km!). Despite being quite an isolated place it has good transport links and is 170km (105 miles) from Lisbon and 50km (31 miles) from Spain.
