Property Description

Hand built yurts built in our solar powered workshop.

Our yurts have a 10 year structure guarantee and 10 year outer cover guaranteed against UV damage and rot and mildew our covers are totally washable and never need any further treatments.

We use Portuguese products whenever possible however we don’t believe Portuguese wood is good enough quality for our yurts, so we use beech for the lattice and Nordic pine for the rafters which we buy from a local Woodyard run by a lady Woodyard owner.

All our wood is treated against insects and then protected with natural oils.

We include a beautiful handmade 1 metre x 1 metre window in wood with glass and shutters, a handmade door in a choice of door styles including double doors for wheelchair access.

We also include modern insulation and a beautiful opening clear skylight for starlit nights.

Finally we include a beautiful cork internal floor in a choice of colours and patterns.

All our yurts are self supporting with no central columns so all the space inside is yours to use as you wish and all our yurts have walls of 2 metres high with the central ring at 3.5 metres giving you the ability to have a mezzanine level if you wish.

We include delivery and installation at your property and can provide local carpenters working to our yurt base plans, or the plans for you to build your own base or we can build a wooden base for your yurt. If you choose us to build the base the wood is guaranteed for 15 years.

We build 5 metre yurts, 20 foot yurts or 6.1 metres with 30 square meters of internal floor space and 24 foot diameter yurts or 7.3 metres diameter which have 42 square meters of internal floor space.

5 metre yurts with 20 square meters of internal floor space 5300 euros delivered and erected.

Testimonial from Annissa and Ben, Idanha-a-Nova – May 2016

We found Sarah and Vladimir through a Pure Portugal Facebook thread about yurts and contacted Sarah directly. She was very prompt in her response, shared a photo of their model yurt, and explained the options and pricing. We were impressed with the couple’s dedication to using as many local and sustainable materials as possible, from Portuguese cork flooring and insulation to lovingly crafted wooden doors, lattices, rafters and windows. After some deliberation and further discussion (throughout which Sarah patiently addressed all of our many concerns and questions!), we decided to order a larger size than their standard model, with a half-glass door, window and skylight.  Sarah and Vladimir were open to custom building the yurt to our specifications, which really made us feel as if we were getting a special and unique structure.

The level of communication throughout the entire process was excellent. Sarah updated us with the latest progress and photos as each component of the yurt was completed, and worked with us to plan a time for delivery and installation that met our tight schedules. The yurt is now up, and we can say the end result is truly beautiful. The craftsmanship, particularly on the door and window, is exceptional (and, frankly, much nicer than many “permanent” homes!). This is off-grid housing of the highest quality— it is a special and unique structure, indeed.
